Internet Marketing for 2011 – SMS Marketing

Is SMS Marketing just a fantasy?
2011 has been a very interesting year for Internet Marketing and it is also the year where SMS and Mobile Marketing took a central stage in Marketing podium. This assessment of 2011 will not be accurate if we do not add the following statement, 2011 has also been the year when Social Media Marketing has been accepted by businesses of all size to play a key role in their marketing efforts and sucess.
Why this year has been interesting for Internet Marketing ?
In February Google who controls over 66% of Internet Traffic, decided enough is enough and they implemented a Panda/Farmer Algorithm updates to bring back order into the chaos Internet Marketers created by playing funny games with the search engine results. In these games Internet Marketers focused their full attention on solely Off-Page SEO method rather than relevancy, which the key value that Google wants. In these Off-page SEO tactics many Internet Marketers gain 1st page of Google by beefing up their site with many inbound links. Google used this criteria for measuring the popularity of websites, the more links your site has, the more popular your website is therefore you were awarded the a place in the 1st page.
Unfortunately these Off Page SEO methods have little or nothing to do with the quality of the website that has been promoted to the 1st place, hence why you will have many sites on 1st page of Google who did not provide any value to people searching for a specific product or service or article for certain keywords. Before this method Google used keywords and as you may have guessed it, Internet Marketers help their customers stuff their websites with keywords. So Google refined the algorithms to detect keyword spamming and knock those sites out of the rankings. In September they implemented another update of their algorithm which changed the rank of may sites. This is why you will hear people say Google does not like Internet Marketers, however I do not believe this statement to be true, because all Google wants is to create a good user experience and we all want this when we are searching for an item that is very important to us.
Sorry for this digression, however this is a very important topic and we need to talk about it. I have received many requests from many local businesses asking me to help them with their Off-Page SEO i.e. backlinks, we have just refused to take them as customers because we know Google Algorithm is very advanced, soon they will be able to weed out most of websites that are relying on backlinks solely.
Let’s get back to our Mobile and SMS Marketing Topic. Mobile Marketing and SMS Marketing are very powerful marketing tools, if you still have any doubts, check the changes in the mobile industry, you will see yourself that this is not a fantasy but a reality. Why do you think Google bought Motorola mobile division for 12.5 Billions? may be you think that they just want to get rid of their pile of cash? the other question you need to ask yourself why Microsoft and Nokia Joined forces?
Worldwide there are more mobile phones and smart devices than laptops or computers, a recent study has shown that 90 % mobile phone text messages are answered within 15 minutes of people receiving texts. However we all know that there are more emails deleted than opened nowadays. This why we encourage most of our customers to have a Mobile and SMS Marketing strategy in their arsenal of Marketing strategies. SMS Marketing is the least expensive of marketing strategies but the ROI is massive, because this strategy allows you to interact with your customers in a very active way.
We believe it is your duty to interact with your customers in a very positive and active ways without spamming them and using the SMS Marketing just accomplishes this goal. We feel it is an invaluable tool to interact and get feedback from the customers who trade with you, in order for you to improve your business. SMS Marketing and Social Media Marketing are without a doubt the winners of 2011 Marketing championship. The big question is what will be the marketing tool of 2012? it is our view that the battle between Facebook and Google + will polarise the marketing field and many new tools will come from these two players, but do no discount Mobile and SMS Marketing yet in your general Marketing Strategy.
